Post 3 - Creativity Article and its Summary – GRQ
A 2018 study led by Roger Beaty explores why some people are more creative than others, revealing that creativity is linked to how well certain brain networks connect. Using fMRI scans, researchers observed participants engaging in divergent thinking tasks, which measure creativity by asking people to think of unusual uses for common objects. The study found that people who scored higher on creativity tasks had stronger connections between three brain networks: the default, salience, and executive networks. These networks typically don’t function simultaneously, but creative individuals can co-activate them, allowing for both idea generation and evaluation. The study suggests that creative thinking relies on the brain's ability to switch between spontaneous and controlled thought processes. Future research aims to explore whether these creative brain connections can be strengthened through activities like drawing classes or other forms of training.
